IWASAKI YOSHIMI – Cindarella no T-Shirt
(1) Radio in background. Interesting. Growly bass and full-on chimey keyboards and Pioneer strings. Basically- vauguely exotic as-is City Pop. Good. MV 2/5 K 9/10 HNT 9/13. The first one bar of the middle-4 is sublime and I want more of it. Even the saxophone solo isn’t too bad (2) Railway station cafe sounds…this one is even better. Not derivative, but identifiably Proper City Pop. MV 2/5 K 8/10 HNT 8/13. I think we’re in the presence of an album that knows exactlt what it wants to be and is completely relaxed in the context of that. (3) Clock sounds. What now? NW guitar – a bit whistful but made up for by busy Linndrums. Basically, the end theme to an ’80’s TV drama, hence HNT 12/13 MV 3/5 K 7/10. Might be my favourite out of 3 so far. Great chorus, great instrumentation, yup, needs to be the end theme of something **like** ‘Sukeban Deka’. (4) Sound of telephone conversation. More laid back and girlie. Nice piping fill-in — Another ‘daytime stroll montage’ track. With a really odd widdle-widdle solo, HNT 11/13 MV 0/5 K 8/10 (6) Tidal and Gusty Gale noises, but not like Emperor. I expected the slow one, but it’s actually more like the a vaguely Miho-style one, I’m going to say another one of those borderline Idol songs…..HNT 10/13 MV 2/5 K 7/10. The music is better than the vocal and needs to be reused….so sorry Yoshimi. (7) Intercom vocal intro, atmospheric keyboards hence MV 4/5 for the intro, K 7/10 HNT 7/13. Yes – it’s the Slow One. OK. (8) Running footsteps and car-starting, then MV 5/5 HNT 10/13 K 7/10. The Progression on the 2nd half of the verse is great and so is the middle-4.
