KASAI KIMIKO – Tokyo Special (1977)

(1) Super-light J-F (I think this is called ‘Kanjitai Vibration’. Modal saxophone solo wah and mid-alto vox HNT 3/13 MV 1/5. No Gymanstics. (2) Fretlessbass and duh-duh-duh cadance. (3) ChoppyGTR. Piano. Lite Percussion and Sweet. (4) This is one of the ones that people recognise and I think it’s ‘Very Special Moment’ and this is the standout track so far.  Doubled Rhodes and ClarinetAshita de Kohi wo….(5).The Slow One, sentimental strings and piano. Skippable and long.  What mood even is this? (6) Now we’re workin’ the streets, lookin’ for some leads…modest horn stabs.  Tempo/Time change. Unadvisable English.  Timing like ‘Close to the Edge’. Nervous funk. Nervous is good.  Hee…’Love Crazy, Money Crazy and It go On’. Really? (7) A quiet one good for kissaten in the evening – high vox this time. Soft percussion.  Goes to California at the 2-minute mark, nice sound effects, like Metebelis-3 Atmosphere, piano solo. (8) Twinkle-twinkle percussion and very delicate vocals.  All quiet here.  Coming home on the train. OP Theme. Very odd mono-synth solo.  Arrangement a bit too busy with fiddly guitar.  This actually has an influence.  It’s 1977.  What is it?
