KIKUCHI MOMOKO – Escape from Dimension

(1) Here we go K 9/10 MV 5/5 HNT 11/13 straight away. Tiny twinkle keyboards and Momoko Vox(TM). Yum Yum. We just hope it keeps up. (2) Odd electronic percussion, “ROMFF!!” Emulator Sound, fantastic Momoko. Great chorus. K 8/10 MV 4/5 HNT 11/13 (3) SIDEBAR: The main reason this album resists commentary is that it speaks so very nicely for itself; this is a slightly-slow one but plenty energetic. MV 4/5 HNT 11/13 K 9/10. Ohh it’s lovely. (4) The straight-out pop song, probably an origin point for lots of 90’s anime songs (guessing here). What we have here is studied naivete – childish noises making complex music, which should be infuriating – WHY ISN’T IT?? I guess, because the intent is to make a nice album and not be all clever-clever about how well you can play, and of course, Momoko, around whom cynicism just evaporates. MV 2/5 HNT 9/13 K 7/10 (5) The sad one. And the key here is to be understatedly sad and not wallowing. It’s got sonar sounds and a pretty arpeggio and a hopeful chorus MV 1/5 K 8/10 HNT 10/13. Hmmm….synth shakuhachi and almost a Pram part!! (6) OH WOW. MV 4/5 HNT 11/13 K 9/10. Mid-pace, modest but with some unexpectedly subtle instrumentation. (7) I guess, the Album track. Well, it’s pleasant enough. HNT 4/13 MV 1/5 K 9/10 (8) Nicer – just cute and unpretentious. HNT 7/13 MV 1/5 K 9/10
